Youtube tutorial:

A shirred dress made from woven fabric and common sewing supplies. The shirring creates a fitted but textured effect over the body, highlighting your curves. The shirring acts as gathering for the skirt and is grown onto the rest of the dress pattern, reducing the number of seams.

It features a boat neck as well as being sleeveless.

    Sewing Level

    Confident beginner - Intermediate.

The steps in this tutorial are quite simple, however, it can be quite a lengthy project and requires a good level of accuracy in some parts. It is recommended that you have completed at least 3 clothing projects from scratch prior to attempting.

    Printing Formats

    A0, A1, A4 and US Letter

    Materials required

1-2m of light weight woven fabric (see image for more details)
    ~50m of shirring (overestimate)
1m of 6-10mm elastic (optional but highly recommended

    Fabric and Material Recommendations

Weight: Light weight fabric, ideally 100-130gsm. Any lighter you run the risk of the skirt lifting in the wind very easily as well as being potentially see-through. Any heavier, the shirring might not come out very tight and therefore not give you the desired effect and a very narrow skirt.

Drape: Very soft and hangs freely. Avoid anything very stiff or with a very tight weave.

Bonus (optional but helps A LOT): Ability to tear the fabric perpendicular and parallel to the selvedge. Being able to tear the fabric perpendicular to the selvedge is more important than parallel

Examples (all woven): Cupro, plain linen, lightweight cottons, lightweight crepe.

Why can I not see the layers option?

If you are on the app version of Adobe Acrobat, it does not currently support the layers feature; it is only available on desktop.

It says "Read-only" when I try to select the layers. What do I do?

Sometimes Acrobat displays this message. Just click "OK" and then try to select it again, it should work.
