The Jun top is a qipao/cheongsam-inspired top. The design has been modernised with princess seams and optional hardware instead of frog fasteners. It features a mandarin collar as well as a faux front opening on the wearer’s right-hand side. For ease of wearing, it features an open-ended zipper on the back.

It is designed to be relatively close-fitting around the body, but not too tight. The pattern can be made sleeveless or with the included optional cap sleeve.

Materials required

1.3m / 1.5yards of fabric for widths of 112cm / 44”.
1.1m / 1.2 yards of fabric for width of 140cm / 54”.

Fabric and Material Recommendations

For this project, a wide range of woven/non-stretch fabrics and fabric weights can be chosen, simply based on your desired outcome.

Weight: Ideally 200-350gsm.

General Equipment

It is assumed that you own general sewing equipment for this pattern. This includes cutting tools (paper AND fabric), pins, snips, fabric marker, rulers, sewing machine and iron.

Project Specific Equipment

1. Zipper foot

2. Overlocker
You can also get away with using an overcast foot on your regular domestic sewing machine if it has this functionality or alternatively, doing Hong Kong seams (where both edges are bias bound). This is considerably neater however, more time-consuming and potentially fiddly.
